Elma Marie Russell was born May 11, 1900 in Graettinger, Iowa to Rufus and Margaret (Hutchinson) Marlow. In 1919 she was married to Carl A. Russell who died in 1962. They were the parents of five sons. Elma died at Bethany Home in Alexandria on April 6, 1993 at the age of 92.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents; son, Dr. Robert Russell of Manitowac, Wisconsin; daughter-n-law, Dorothy June Russell of Kensington; four brothers, Arthur, Harley, Dennis and Walter; and four sisters, Myrtle Bennett, Esther Kussatz, Marguerite Speer and Helen Sychs. Surviving Elma are her sons: Maurice D. Russell of Kensington; James and Dorothy Russell of Alexandria; Stanley and Judy Russell of Eagan; Daniel and Mary Russell of Kensington; daughter-in-law Gloria Russell of Manitowac, Wisconsin; sisters: Ruth McAllister of Lake George; Marjorie Libra of Taylor, Michigan; Bernice Renke of Backus; brother: John and Myrtle Marlow of Sebeka.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 10, 1993 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Moe Township with Rev. Dane W. Compton and Rev. Dan Christ officiating. Interment was in the Moe Heights Cemetery in Moe Township. Pallbearers were Vilho Nissila, Jeff Russell, Bill Russell, Ryan Mulholland, Greg Russell and Gary Russell. Ray Cook and Tom Moriarty were named honorary pallbearers. Arrangements were with the Anderson Funeral Home.
