Charles O Hunt was the son of Mary Gould Fogg and Charles Hunt of Gorham, Maine.

He was a 1st Lieutenant and Brevet Captain of the 5th Maine Battery during the Civil War and was injured at the battle of Gettysburg.

After the war he went on to study medicine and became the 1st Superintendent of the Maine General Hospital (now known as Maine Medical Center) in Portland, Maine. He may be considered moderately famous in certain circles.
