Mrs. Inez Kelsey Bean, 80, of 965 Saticoy Ave., Saticoy, one of the county pioneer Kelsey sisters, died unexpectedly at a local hospital yesterday after a long illness.

Mrs. Bean was born in Saticoy, July 8, 1882 and lived in Ventura County all of her life. She and her three sisters, known as the Kelsey sisters, became well known in the county for their role in helping to build the early community of Saticoy. Her father was Theodore A. Kelsey, a pioneer who came to Santa Clara Valley in 1867.

Mrs. Bean had been a member of Community Congregational Church, Saticoy, and a member of the Saticoy Poinsettia Club. She had been a student nurse in San Francisco in 1906 at the time of the great earthquake and fire and graduated from St. Vincent's School of Nursing, Los Angeles in 1909. In 1903 she graduated from Ventura High School.

Surviving are son Robert S. Bean, Moorpark; sister, Mrs. Mabel Rugg of Saticoy; brother, Earl Kelsey, Santa Paula; grandson, Robert S. Bean, Jr. and granddaughter, Sherryl Bean, both of Moorpark; and many nieces and nephews. Two other members of the Kelsey sisters were the late Mrs. W. J. Garman and Mrs. Adeline Duval.

Private funeral services will be conducted by the H. B. Skillin Mortuary in Santa Paula Cemetery, Tuesday at 11 a.m. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Instead of flowers, friends may make contributions to the Saticoy Church Memorial Fund or to the charity of their choice.
