Norman L. Cooke of Route 3, Ellensburg died at Veteran's Hospital in Seattle yesterday afternoon about an hour after he had been taken there by the Evenson ambulance. He was born in Oregon and was 70 years of age. The body will be returned here for funeral services and burial.

Norman L. Cooke, Route 3, died at the Veteran's Hospital in Seattle Sunday, an hour after being taken there by Evenson ambulance. He was 70 years of age.


Cooke was born March 29, 1893 in Eugene, Ore. and came to the Kittitas Valley as a small boy with his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Edward Cooke. He married Irma Wilson, March 29, 1935 in Ellensburg. He was a veteran of World War I, serving with the Army Medical Corps. He had farmed in the Fairview District al his life. He was a member of World War I Barracks of Ellensburg.


Survivors include Mrs. Cooke, Rt. 3, a son, Dexter Cooke of South Cle Elum and a daughter, Miss Alison Cooke of Ellensburg and five grandchildren; three brothers, Edward, Budd, and Carl Cooke, all of Ellensburg; two sisters, Mrs. Margery Gillis of Kittitas and Mrs. Susan Huss, Ellensburg. He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.


Rev. C. M. Strong will conduct funeral services for Mr. Cooke at 2 p.m. Thursday, September 19 at the Evenson Chapel. World War I Barracks will conduct graveside rites immediately following the funeral at the IOOF Cemetery.


The family suggests that anyone wishing to make a memorial in his memory send it to the Cancer Fund, care of Mrs. K. J. Larimer, 209 East Capitol Ave.
