Girl Dies of Injuries Sustained When Clothes Caught Fire From a Bonfire

Pauline May McClure, the six year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alphia McClure, of 716 west Thirtieth street, was fatally burned yesterday afternoon while playing around a bonfire in an alley at the rear of the home. She died a few hours later at the residence without having regained consciousness.

According to relatives, the little girl in company with several playmates at the rear of the McClure home procured a collection of paper and sticks and endeavored to start a bonfire. In an attempt to start the flames, the McClure child got too close to the fire and her dress caught.

Before help could be called by the playmates the flames had caught the hair and within a few seconds she was enveloped in flames. The hysterical cries of the playmates attracted several adults who wrapped her in clothing and extinguished the fire. It was found, however that the entire body was fatally injured and regardless of medical attention she died last evening about six o'clock.

A funeral service was held Wednesday from the power house mission, with Rev. Shawley officiating. Interment was made in the IOOF cemetery, Marion.
