Linda Gail Brooks, 59, of Decatur, died on Sunday morning, Feb. 17, 2013, in a Knoxville hospital.


A lifelong resident of the Athens area, she was born on Oct. 26, 1952, and was a daughter of the late Robert and Hazel Thurman. She was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Union Grove Baptist Church of Decatur. She enjoyed crafts and attending local flea markets.


She was preceded in death by one sister, Phyllis Thurman.


She leaves behind to cherish her memory her loving husband of 44 years, John Henry Brooks; two sons, Jason Lee Brooks and his wife, Kelli, and John Albert Books; two brothers, Lonnie Thurman and his wife, Rose, and Bobby R. Thurman and his wife, Cheryl; four grandchildren, Brittny Brooks, Jacob Brooks, McKayla Brooks and Michelle Brooks; and numerous other extended family members and friends.


The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday night in the parlor of Companion Funeral & Cremation Service, located at 2415 Georgetown Road in Cleveland.


A private burial will be held in Short Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
