Mr. Hendren was just recovering from a severe cold and asthma which had confined him to his home for several days last week but his condition was not considered alarming and he was planning a business trip to Indianapolis on Monday.
Mr. Hendren was widely known as a business man and politician. He was regarded as a man of extra-ordinary ability and force of character and had achieved great success in all his various activities.
Local and State Activities
At the time of his death Mr. Hendren was President of the Farmers Bank & Trust Co., of Bloomfield, and the Citizens Bank & Trust Co., of Dugger; a member of the board of directors of the Oolitic State Bank, Oolitic; Lyons Bank and Trust Company, Lyons; Switz City Bank, of Switz City, Citizens Bank of Freedom and the Home Building and Loan Association of Dugger.
Mr. Hendren taught school at the age of 18 and later was a telegraph operator and railroad agent. He attended Valparaiso Normal and the Central Law School of Indianapolis and for seven years was a merchant at Marco. He served two terms as Trustee of his home township, eight years as deputy clerk of Greene county, and two years as deputy prosecuting attorney of the Greene and Sullivan Circuit Court. He also published the Bloomfield Democrat for several years and for more than thirty years had been prominent in the councils of the Democratic party of Indiana, having served as precinct, township, county and district chairman and as vice-chairman and head of the speakers bureau of the state committee for several years.
Mr. Hendren has been a hard worker in the ranks of democracy for many years and was a personal friend of William Jennings BRYAN.
He was appointed chief clerk of the State Building and Loan Department in1910 and served two and on-half years. He served as state examiner of the State Board of Accountants for six years and in 1919 was appointed by Governor Goodrich as a member of the State Industrial Board. He resigned this office early in 1920 to enter the banking business in this city.
He was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and of the Indiana Democratic Club.

Mr Hendren, who was the son of Lewis C. HENDREN and Joanna (DORSEY) HENDREN was born at Canal Winchester, Franklin County, Ohio, March 29, 1857, and at the age of 14 moved with his parents to a farm near Marco.
He was married on April 13, 1881, to Anna M. HADLEY, of Mooresville, Indiana, who survives him. To this union eleven children were born. The are Gilbert H. HENDREN, Jr., O. Herman HENDREN, Charity A. BROWNING and Mary M. WOLF of Indianapolis, Seaborn D., Curtis C., Edith E., and Marjorie F. HENDREN of Bloomfield; Robert D. HENDREN of Dugger; William F. HENDREN of Wichita Falls, Texas; Alice J. CANTWELL of Salida, Colorado. He is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Bert HELMS, of Fortville, Ind., and 16 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Methodist church instead of Thursday as previously announced. The Rev. W. O. TRUEBLOOD, pastor of the Friends church at Indianapolis, will have charge of the services assisted by the Rev. E. D. Aldridge of the local church.
