FENELON GARDNER was born in Greene County, Ohio, the son of Richard Gardner and Ruth Nelson. Fenelon married Mary Matilda Maggert, April 1, 1854, in Kosciusko County, Indiana. Mary was the daughter of David (Samuel, Daniel) Maggert and Mary Merica. Fenelon and Mary came to Minnesota in 1882, with seven of their children. After Fenelon died, Mary returned to Indiana to live with her daghter. Mary is buried in Hepton Union cemetery located in Kosciusko County, Indiana.
CIVIL WAR RECORD: Fenelon enlisted in 1863, in Co. C, 128th Reg. Ind. Inf. He participated in the Atlanta campaign, taking part in the actions at Resaca, Dallas, New Hope Church, Kennesaw Mountain and Jonesboro. After the fall of Atlanta, the Regiment took part in the battle of Franklin, where it aided in repelling repeated assaults. The Regiment then fought in the battle of Nashville Dec, 15-16. Fenelon mustered out at Raleigh, N.C., April 10, 1866.

Fenelon Gardner, one of the old setlers of Sherburne County, died at his home in Bluehill last Friday afternoon of general debility. The funeral took place Sunday, the interment being made at the Bluehill cemetery. He was an old soldier and several of his old comrades were present to pay their last respects to their departed brother.
