William Thompson was born in Charlestown around 1762.

In 1784, William married Miss Elizabeth Martin; with whom he had the following known children:
John Thomas (1786-1868)
Martha (1787-1871)
Elizabeth (1790-1846)
Mary Ann Harriet (1801-1839)
Margaret Jane (1803-1859)

In 1800, William built High Point Plantation near Jenkinsville in Fairfield County, South Carolina. Here he would live the remainder of his days; leaving this home to his daughter, Margaret Jane and son-in-law, Hargrave A. Glenn, upon his death on November 22, 1842.
