John L. Johnson, a well known resident of Holmes City, passed away Sunday noon at the age of 76 years, 1 month and 3 days. He was born in Langa Horjedalen, Sweden on Feb. 12, 1855. Mr. Johnson came to America in 1885. He was united in marriage to Christine Casper June 20, 1897. He is survived by his wife, one son, Joseph at home, four daughters, Emma, Mrs. Carl Lordalen of Holmes City; Mrs. Alpha Quitek of Hoffman, Minnie, Mrs. Alford Wesen; Hattie, Mrs. Olof Thunberg both of LaGrand. Two sisters, Mrs. Christine Ostad of Fargo, N.D., Mrs. Joe Sundin of Langa Harjedalen, Sweden; one brother, Erick of Spokane, Wash., also three grandchildren. All his children, wife and sister, Mrs. Ostad were at his bedside when he passed away in the faith of his Savior. Mr. Johnson was a member of the Swedish Lutheran Church of Holmes City. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 1 o’clock from the Johnson home and at 2 o’clock at the Holmes City church, conducted by Rev. A. Mattson. He was buried in the Christian Union cemetery, of Holmes City. Pallbearers were C.A.Wesen, Conrad Lannes, Wm. Blackwell, Louis Gulbranson, Victor and Peter Grubb.
