Kenneth G. Fernau, 89, of Grand Island died Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013, at the Grand Island Veterans Home.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Grand Island Veterans Home Cemetery. Dan Naranjo will officiate. Military honors will be provided by the United Veterans Honor Guard and the Nebraska Army National Honor Guard. To honor Mr. Fernau's wishes, cremation has taken place. All Faiths Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Fernau was born March 6, 1924, at Long Pine to George and Iva (Henderson) Fernau.

His wife, Meredith, preceded him in death.

Survivors include a sister, Barbara "Bobbi" Rohweder of Grand Island, and caregivers and friends, Elna Gappa and Terri Gappa of Grand Island.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Willard, Neil and Marvin "Bud" Fernau; and six sisters, Geneva, Beulah, Erna, Lorena, Evelyn and Lola.

Kenneth served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was united in marriage to Meredith McCulla. For many years Kenneth was a dance instructor and sold insurance.
