According to Trinity Church online records, a "Thomas Whiley" [sic] married a Sarah Mulligan at Trinity Church June 27 1751. The "Whiley" spelling is doubtless an error for Whaley or Whalie. Sarah died of yellow fever along with many other NYC victims in 1795 (Death Liber 1, line 594; NYC Municipal Archives). She was recorded as being a resident of 53 Cherry St at the time of death.
In her will, dated Oct 9 1795 and probated Dec 31 1796, Sarah left everything to her daughter Margaret, widow of Henry Hurst. In the event that Margaret remarried or died, her children Frances Hurst and George Hurst were to inherit.
Online Trinity Church records indicate that a "Thomas Whaley" and a "Sarah Whaley" baptized a son named James Aug 2 1759. However, Sarah's will, which names no sons or children of sons, indicates that James and any other sons Thomas and Sarah might have had likely already died by 1795.
In contrast, Samuel Whaley (English Record of the Whaley Family in America p. 105-107) assumed that Sarah and Thomas had had three sons, (allegedly named Thomas, Hercules and Cook), as well as daughter Margaret. However, Samuel Whaley seems to erroneously confused Thomas Whaley's BROTHERS-in-law (Thomas Mulligan, Hercules Mulligan, and Cook Mulligan*) with sons.

*In his only extant letter Thomas Whaley refers to his "brother Cook Mulligan." But by his "brother" Thomas must have meant his brother-in-law. (Whaley, "English Record"....p. 191) Sarah's brother, Thomas Mulligan, likewise calls Thomas Whaley his "brother" even though he was his brother-in-law (Whaley, "English Record..." p 194)
