Crimean War Victoria Cross Recipient. Born in Moneygall, Ireland, he served as a Private in the 2nd Battalion, 1st Regiment, British Army. On June 16, 1855, Private Prosser while on duty in the trenches at Sebastopol, Crimea, pursued and apprehended a soldier of the 88th Regiment in the act of deserting the enemy while exposed to two cross fires. Then again on August 11, 1855, at Sebastopol, Private Prosser by leaving the utmost advanced trench and carryed in a soldier of the 95th Regiment who lay severely wounded and unable to move. For gallantry in the face of the enemy, he was awarded the Victoria Cross on February 24, 1857. He died at age 39 in Liverpool, England.
