Helen Ward Blakeslee, 75, died March 25, 1987 in Webster, Harris County, Texas. A resident of Houston, Texas, for the past 10 years, she was born September 16, 1911 in Kirklin, Clinton County, Indiana, daughter of Norval Dudley Ward and Ada Grace Moore Ward. She was a fourth generation resident of Clinton County, Indiana, being a descendant of Robert G. and Nancy Poston Ward, John P. and Dulcina McGinnis Moore, Hugh and Sarah Ann Shephard Shearer, and Cortez and Martha King Harrell, all of whom came to Clinton County before 1870.

She was a 1930 graduate of Frankfort (Indiana) High School, a 1936 graduate of God's Bible School & College in Cincinnati, Ohio; and a 1938 graduate of Greenville College, Greenville, Illinois. During the 1938-1939 school year she taught at the Oakdale Vocational School, Oakdale, Breathitt County, Kentucky. In 1942 she joined the Defense Department at Wright Field (later Wright Patterson Air Force Base) in Dayton, Ohio. During her 27 years of service, "Mrs. B" as she was affectionately called, was a Contracting Officer and Negotiator, Assistant to the Chief of Procurement in the Bomber Division and Branch Chief, Management and Analysis, Procurement and Production Office, Aeronautical Systems Division

She was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, serving as Commander of Unit 9, Dayton, Ohio, and Ohio State Commander in 1964-5; member of the VFW Unit 657 and MOC Auxiliaries in Dayton, Ohio. At her death she was a member of Clear Lake United Methodist Church, Houston, Texas. She was a former member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Dayton, Ohio, where she served on the Building Committee and taught Sunday School for many years, and St. Timothy Lutheran Church, Huber Heights, Ohio, where she served on the Constitution Committee.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carroll L. Blakeslee, whom she married on July 31, 1943; her brother, Charley A. Ward of Creve Coeur, Illinois; a brother, N.D. Ward, who died in infancy; and her half-brother, George Brewer, Jr. of Frankfort, Indiana. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Katherine and Keith Blakley of Friendswood, Texas, two grandchildren, Matthew and Meghan Blakley, several cousins and one niece.

Services were conducted at the Schlientz and Moore funeral Home, Dayton, Ohio, on March 28, 1987 by the Rev. Fred Klopfer. Interment was at Miami Valley Memory Gardens.
