JOAN JENCKES, 69, of 59 Branch Pike, a nursing teacher at the former Rhode Island School for Practical Nursing, now Community College of Rhode Island, for 10 years, retiring in 1977, died Wednesday at Roger Williams Medical Center.
Born in Woonsocket, she was a daughter of the late George W. Jenckes and Ruth (Maynard) Jenckes-Paine.
Miss Jenckes was a 1948 graduate of Roger Williams School of Nursing and a member of the Roger Williams Nurses Alumni. She received a bachelor of science degree and master's degree from Boston University. She had taught at Boston University School of Nursing for a year and was a supervisor at Roger Williams Hospital.
She was a volunteer at the Smith Appleby House in Smithfield and the Greenville Library. She was a member of the Audobon Society in Smithfield and a former member of Slatersville Congregational Church.
She is survived by a sister and several nieces and nephews.
