DIED -- At his home on Sinking Creek, Tuesday, July 30, 1912, "Uncle" John Amsden, age 74 years. "Uncle" John had been in very poor health for a couple of years, and about 2 weeks before his death was compelled to take to his bed. The disease causing death was a liver trouble. Mr. Amsden came to Reynolds County from Crane Pond, Iron County, Missouri about 40 years ago and located on West fork, where he continued to reside until about 1888 when he moved to Sinking Creek. Some ten or twelve years ago, he was appointed postmaster at Centerville and has held the position continusoly since. He had never made a profession of religion until a day or two before his death. After he had made the profession he requested that a Minister of the Goespel be sent for that he might be baptised, but his condition would not permit it. Monday evening he told members of his family that he had "just received a message from the Maker saying that He would call at 5:30 next morning," and sure enough, he passed away at exactly 5:29 a.m. He leaves a widow and several grown sons and daughters. The funeral services were conducted by Judge Keith at the Wilson cemetery, Tuesday evening.----
He first married a Cynthia Ann Parker in Iron County 1864.
2nd married Cassandra Amanda Meadows in Reynolds County in 1876.
S/O John Amsden 1817-1889 & Jane Clay 1820-1883.
