Hewetson A. "Sandy" Free, 72, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 28, 2013, at his residence surrounded by his family and friends.
Funeral services will be 3:00 P.M. Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at the Gospel Light Baptist Church, 116 Gospel Hill Court/Hwy. 4, Orangeburg, with Pastor Bob Ossewaarde and Pastor Bill Jolly officiating, with burial in Norway Cemetery in Norway directed by Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. in Orangeburg.
Active pallbearers will be Larry Free, Barry Free, Jimmy Free, Lee Strickland, Henry Hughes, Roy Mohon, and Chris Mohon. Honorary pallbearers will be the Men of Gospel Light Baptist Church.
Mr. Free was born August 21, 1941 in Norway, a son of the late Harry Free and the late Olivette Phin Free. He was a devoted member of the Gospel Light Baptist Church and enjoying serving the Lord by witnessing to everyone ne came in contact with. He was graduate from Norway High School. earned a Bachelor's degree in Business at the University of South Carolina and owned and operated Sandy Free Realty, in Orangeburg for 35 years. He was an avid south Carolina Gamecock fan and was always happy to see them play.
Survivors include his loving wife; Betty Hughes Free of Cordova; his brother; Phin (Mary) Free of Florence; three children; son-Alex (Barbara) Free of Charlotte, N.C.; son-Gregg (Crystal) Berry of North; and daughter-Tracy (Joey)Whitt of Bamberg; seven grandchildren; Megan Free, Lauren Free, Crystal Barbee, Aaron (Lindsey) Berry, Kirstie Berry, Lacey Brown, and Tyler Whitt; five great grandchildren; Ethan, Skyler, Isiah, Khloe and Gracie and a very special friend, Lee Strickland of Orangeburg.
