J.F. Adkisson, chairman of the board of First Federal Savings and Loan Association, died Wednesday morning at the age of 83.

Adkisson had been associated with First Federal for over 63 years and the length of his service is believed to be a record within the savings and loan industry.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Coker-Mathews-Peters Funeral Home and burial will be in Forest Park Cemetery.

Adkisson joined the firm on Jan. 11, 1911 at the age of 19. During his career he served as secretary, director, president and general manager and board chairman of the firm.

Also, he was one of the first members of the Texas Savings and Loan League and for many years served on its board of directors. He was elected to the post of vice president for two terms and served as president of the league in 1942 and 1943.

Born in Denison on Feb. 20, 1891, Adkisson and his family moved to Greenville when he was a small boy. He attended Greenville schools and Burleson College.
