Funeral services for John Wise Adkisson, 98, of Greenville will be at 3 p.m. today at Coker-Mathews Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Shamblin officiating. Burial will be in Forest Park Cemetery.

The retired businessman, who established Adkisson Florist in 1913, died Thursday night in a local nursing home.

A charter member of the Texas State Florist Association, Mr. Adkisson was executive director of the organization for 33 years. He was the first recipient of The Achievement Award, the florist association’s highest award.

Born March 18, 1889 in Greenville, he was the son of John Walker and Louise Wise Adkisson. Mr. Adkisson married Lenna McCandless June 13, 1911, in Greenville. She preceded him in death Sept. 15, 1959. In 1965, he married Mae Hicks.

Mr. Adkisson was a member of Kavanaugh United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Mae Adkisson of Emory; sons, Jay Adkisson and Dr. Mike Adkisson, both of Greenville; daughters (sic), Mary Wise Ward of Camas , Wash.; sister, Mrs. Glen Davis of San Francisco, Calif.; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Richard Adkisson, John Adkisson, Robert Adkisson, David Adkisson, Joe Rutherford and Bill Warren.
