Thomas Harris Forsyth served as 2nd Lt. in Company F, 40th Iowa Infantry in the civil War as did two of his sons, Charles W Forsyth and Allen W. Forsyth. This headstone was placed in September, 2013 through the efforts of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, 1861-1865, Iowa Department, Oak Wood Cemetery, and the US Veterans's Administration.
