TEXAS CITY - Bill Bethune, 58, of Dickinson, died Tuesday, October 5,1999, in Texas City. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 8, at the First Baptist Church of Texas City with Dr. Terry Ray and Chief Gerald Grimm officiating. A committal service will follow at Galveston Memorial Park in Hitchcock. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. Thursday at Emken-Linton Funeral Home in Texas City.

Mr. Bethune was born February 10, 1941, in Galveston. He was a Captain with the Texas City Fire Department. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Alta Loma, a past member of the Pension Board, former Union officer and original volunteer member of the EMS unit.

Mr. Bethune was preceded in death by a son, Billy Hill and his father Clyde Bethune.

Survivors include his wife, Sandi, of Dickinson: his mother Mildred Bethune; son Billy Shipley of Mobile, Alabama; daughters Debbie Wentling and husband David of College Station, Dana Argo and husband Elijah of Dickinson and Sara Coutorie and husband James of Texas City; brother George Bethune of Santa Fe; and halfbrother Don Tarpley of Tulsa,Oklahoma; sister Ruby Lauzon of Santa Fe; grandchildren Kelsey Wentling and Christian Argo.

Pallbearers will be members of the Texas City Fire Department. Honorary pallbearers are Fire Department EMTs, Police Department personnel and others in the public safety family
