Abraham Johannes Van Epps, son of Johannes and Neeltje Hansen Toll Van Epps, was baptised October 15, 1738 in Glenville, Schenectady County, New York. He married Margarita Veeder or Vedder November 15, 1761 at Schenectady, Schenectady County, New York and they had a daughter, Margarita (Margaret), born February 7, 1763. Mother Margarita died that day of complications from the birth. Abraham married Debora Janse Viele October 11, 1768 in the Reformed Dutch Church at Schenectady, New York. They had a farm at the Aalplants and their children were: Neeltje, Debora, Catharina, Johannes Abrahamse, Helena or Lena, Elisabeth, Eva, Maria, Carel and Abraham. On February 10, 1776, Abraham, the father, was elected Ensign of one of the newly organized Schenectady Militia Companies. In the summer of 1777, he served in the campaign against Burgoyne as Captain of the 2nd Regiment of Albany County Militia, Schenectady District. His commander was Col. Abraham Wemple. Van Epps was in command of various details for the apprehension of Tories and for guard duty, his area being the Aalplants. In the fall of 1780, he marched to Caughnawaga when the Mohawk settlements were destroyed. Seventy three year old Abraham died March 19, 1812 in Alplaus, Schenectady County, New York and is presumed buried in that area.
