Peter Mienke was born 12 May 1810 in Nottensdorf, Germany to Peter & Catharina Trine (Wiegers) Meinke. A Pastor in Germany wrote that Peter was the seventh child born to Peter and Catherina.
Peter met Maria P. Wiegersen of Hedendorf, dau. of Hein & Margarethe (Luhman)Wiegersen. They married on 2 Nov 1832 in Neukloster, Germany. In 1832, Peter Meinke was a worker in Hedendorf, Germany at the age of 22. In 1837 to 1846, Peter was a worker living in a small house on a farm in Nottensdorf, Germany. From 1848 to 1852 he was listed as a small farmer and settler in Nottensdorf. Peter came to the USA in 1853 with his family and he was Naturalized 13 May 1873 in Goodhue Co., MN. Peter was age 43 and Maria 44 when they immigrated to America.
Peter and Marias oldest child, Hein was born in Hedendorf. After the family moved to Nottensdorf, 4 daughters were born, Catharina in 1937, Margaretha in 1940, Maria in 1841, and Anna in 1846.
Peter retired at age 65 and his son in law, August (Maria) Santelman, who worked both his farm and Peters from that time on. Son Hein (Henry) shown to be farming on another farm nearby.
Peter and Maria belonged to the same church as their dau. Maria and son in law August Santelman, the 1st Methodist Church of Red Wing, MN.
Peter died 15 Aug 1884 in Hay Creek, Goodhue Co., MN, at age 74 yrs. 2 mos. and 5 days. He is buried in Hay Creek German Methodist Cemetery beside his wife Maria who died 3 Jan 1888. They are near August & Marias graves. All their gravetstone statistics are carved in German. Peter named his son in law, August Santelman as his executor. Dau. Maria Santelman and son Henry Mienke seem to be the only living children at the time of their parents deaths.
