Mrs. John L. English, 2616 Henry Street, native of Greenville and member of a prominent pioneer family of this section, died at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon after a brief illness.
Mrs. English was born in Greenville on the site of the present Sears-Roebuck Store at the corner of Lee and Wesley Street, the daughter of Alexander Cameron and Pamelia Spradling Cameron. She began her education in Greenville schools and atttended two finishing schools in Tennessee.
She was long-time member of Wesley Methodist Church, where she was head of the Beginners Department for more than 40 years.
She was married in Wesley Church in 1896 in a double ceremony uniting in marriage also her brother, Marvin Cameron, and Miss Bird Johnson. Mr. and Mrs. English moved to the site of the present home on Henry Street when they were married. Mr. English died in 1938 (sic).
Mrs. English was active in mucic club work in former years and was a former member of the Community Concerts. At the time of her death she was a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Greenville Garden Club, and the Knife and Fork Club.
Her only son, Cameron English, precedd her in death on July 12, 1956.
Funeral services were to be conducted this afternoon at 4 o'clock at the Gray Sorrells Chapel with the Rev. Cicero B. Fielder conducting the services. Burial was to be in Forest Park Cemetery with Carleton Sheram, Paul Mathews, W.E. DeWitt and Ellington Bush serving as pallbearers.
Survivors inlclude two grandchildren, A.C. English and Mrs. Hazel Marsh both of Houston and other relatives.
