Kari Brandvold was born in Alvdal Norway the youngest child of Knut and Sigrid Brandvold. She came to the US in 1902, first living with a cousin Hannah Berdahl in South Dakota. She also lived with her sister Anne Stortroen Johnson and helped out with her family. She wanted to be more American so she changed the spelling of her name to Carrie. She was full of zest and laughed a lot. She met Nelson Rector and eventually moved to Texas.
