She was born Monday, Oct. 15, 1917, in Winston-Salem, the daughter of the late Alonzo Francis and Sarah Jane Kreeger Yarbrough.
Mrs. Ormond was brought up in Old Town and grew up in New Hope United Methodist Church and was affiliated with Antioch United Methodist Church in Rural Hall.
She was married to her husband of 55 years July 19, 1947, at her parents' home by the Rev. I. Howard Chadwick. She was a graduate of Brevard College in North Carolina. Mrs. Ormond was a retired assistant to the minister and member of John Wesley United Methodist Church, where she was very active and instrumental in bringing new members into the congregation. She was a member of the Charleston Symphony League, the United Methodist Women and the Benevolent Society.
Mrs. Ormond was predeceased by two brothers and four sisters and is survived by her husband, John H. Ormond; a brother, John Richard Yarbrough; her godchild, Julie Caroline Anderson; and 20 nieces and nephews, who loved her greatly.
A graveside memorial service will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, May 29, 2003, at MapleWood Cemetery in Kinston. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to John Wesley United Methodist Church, 626 Savannah Highway, Charleston, SC 29407.
