Vernon Thomas Baker, 70, widow of Anna Frances Puckett Baker, of Lorraine Avenue died April 23. He was the son of Virgil and Genvia Hazel Smith Baker. Vernon enjoyed fishing, hunting, people and TV watching, looking after his home and chewing tobacco. Survivors include his daughter, Anna Marie Patrick; two brothers, William Alford and wife Rosie Baker, and Virgil Lee and wife Edith Baker; four sisters, Mary Hazel and husband John Newby, Marlyn and husband Lonnie Naylor, Judy and husband John Laird, and Janet Sue and husband David Dickenson; and other family members. He was preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn Ann Bell. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Betts & West Funeral Home with Elwood Hager. Burial in Maple Grove Cemetery. Visitation was from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday.
