FUNERALS HELD LAST WEEK FOR MRS. WICKS AND MISS RAYMOND

Funeral services were held here last week for two old residents of the community, Mrs. Nels T Wicks who died at her home in Roland Tuesday, and Miss Julia Raymond, formerly of this place, who died in Des Moines Wednesday.

[Mrs. Nels T. Wicks portion omitted]

Julia Raymond

Miss Julia Raymond was born at Saude, Norway, September 5, 1851, and died at Des Moines November 15, 1933, at the age of 82 years, two months and 10 days.

She came to America with her folks at the age of six years, settling at Lisbon, Ill. At the age of 13 she came with her folks to Roland where she lived for several years. The past 50 years she has lived in Des Moines with the exception of about two years when she lived in Minneapolis 15 years ago.

When she came to Iowa as a girl, she drove the team on one of the two covered wagons used by the family to make the trip, her father driving the other team. She was confirmed by Rev. P. A. Rasmussen in Illinios before she left, and when she lived at Roland she belonged to the Salem church.

She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Jacob Holm of Rembrandt, and Mrs. Ole Jorstad of Butterfield, Minn.

The body was brought here for burial and the funeral was held Saturday afternoon at Salem church with Rev. Olaf Holen in charge. Interment took place in the Roland cemetery.

Among those in attendance at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Holm, Mrs. Jacob Holm, and Misses Julia and Bertha Raymond of Rembrandt, and Mrs. Ole Jorstad of Butterfield, Minn.

CARD OF THANKS

We wish to thank all the friends for their help and sympathy during the illness and death of Miss Julia Raymond. We want to thank Rev. Olaf Holen for his words of comfort, Mr. and Mrs. O. S. Boyd for singing at the funeral, and to those who contributed for flowers. - The Relatives"
