Daughter of John Watson (~1810-aft 1870) and Adeline Fearing? (~1815-~April 1879).

~ ~ ~

Her death date is based on the family story that she passed away the day after her son, Alonza Deene Riggs, was born, 14 April 1871. Some sources say 1873, but Alonza's death certificate and the census records reflect a birth year of 1871.
From Flavius Bennett Hall, Jr., grandson of Alonza Deene Riggs Holland

Cemetery Location:

"Caroline was buried in the old Watson cemetery out side of Swansboro at the edge of the old Arnold field. The markers were made of wood and had been burned over."
From David R. Taylor, great grandson of Caroline Watson Riggs

"Just a few points of cedar sticking out of the ground where cedar boards had been. I was told that it had been burned over. It was at the back corner of a field called the old Arnold field. This was just outside of Swansboro on the left as you are going to Jacksonville. At the time the old Watson house was still standing though empty. It has since been torn down. The Watson family was still living on the land at the time. It was to them that I was speaking. They were old then, but they were very nice to me."
From David R. Taylor, great grandson of Caroline Watson Riggs

"The Arnold/Watson cemetery is located on the left of Highway 24 between the Belgrade-Swansboro Rd. and the Piney Grove Baptist Church Rd. The closest address is 4080 Freedom Way, Swansboro, NC. From the best that I can tell this house is the house that I went to. The cemetery was very far back of this house. I don't now remember if it was direct back or at an angle. The old Arnold field reached back to a small branch coming off Queen's Creek." From David R. Taylor, a great grandson of Caroline Watson Riggs
