Leon Burdette was born April 9, 1892, in Alfred, N. Y., and died July 18, 1973, in Hornell, N. Y.
He graduated from Alfred University in 1916, where he was a member of two honor societies Sigma Chi and Keramos.
In 1918 he married Rachel Burdick of Westerly, R. I. To this union were born two children William and Mrs. James Scholes, both of Geneseo, N. Y. Mrs. Bassett preceded him in death.
Mr. Bassett joined the Alfred University staff in 1932 and the Ceramic College staff in 1938, becoming an associate professor in 1946 and receiving the honorary degree of professional ceramic engineering in 1950. His studies led to patents and successful processes in glaze refractories and abrasive technology.
Surviving are his wife, the former Virginia Foster; his two children; a granddaughter, a great-granddaughter; and his brother, Robert, of Beaver Falls, Pa.
