After drinking and a quarrel with his wife, Otto Van Doran said goodbye to his family on the second floor of their home at 1311 East Second Street and went down to the kitchen where he shot himself in his chest with a No. 12 shotgun. Though his father in law Frank Russell, brother in law Jacob and other family members rushed to help it was to late. He was a button cutter and had lived in Muscatine most of his life.
