John Henry Adams was born in Halifax, VA, to Samuel Adams and Eleanor R. "Ellen" Barnett, daughter of John Barnett and Martha McFarland, daughter of Robert McFarland named in his will of Caswell, NC. Samuel was living in the home of his son John H. in 1860 Halifax, VA, and Eleanor had died by 1860 census.

John Henry Adams, wife Mary(b. Dec 1817 d. 1869), and children left Halifax, VA, 1869 traveling to Lamar Co., TX. Wife Mary Karnel White died on the trail to TX. She was the daughter of Turner D. White (son of Thomas White and Mary Carnal of Halifax, VA) who married 19 Jan 1817 Margaret S. Brandon, daughter of Thomas Brandon and Agness Warren of Caswell, NC.

John Henry Adams and Mary Karnal White had the following children:
1- Margaret Ellen Adams, b.1839, d. 1869, married Robert Howard. They were killed Oklahoma Terr. traveling to TX. One child survived, William, who was raised by family.
2-Benjamin Bonaparte Adams, b. 1843, d. 1937, was a CSA veteran of 59th VA Regiment, Company E., Civil War. He was awarded a pension by KY, #4643. He never married, and stayed with his brother Philip and farmed in KY. He died Bardwell, Carlisle, KY (FAG)
3-Susan P. Adams, b. 1846 d. Apr 1880, married James A. Booth, son of William and Sarah L. Booth. They had William H., Ellen G., and Sarah L. Booth, all of Paris, Lamar, TX.
(4) Samuel Turner Adams, b. 27 Dec 1851, d. 6 Apr 1915 married Martha "Mattie" Bolton, daughter of George Barnett Bolton and Sarah Ellen Wade of Caswell, NC. George Barnett Bolton and his brother James Currie Bolton, both of Lamar, TX, were sons of Dixon Bolton (son of William Bolton and Mary Dixon) and wife Ann Elizabeth "Eliza" Barnett, daughter of Dr. Currie Barnett and wife Sarah Adams, all of Person, NC (daughter of John Adams and Esther Turner of Halifax, VA). Samuel Turner and Mattie Bolton Adams' children were Eula, Joe, Lalon Clyde, Ida Russie, and Samuel Manton Adams.
(5) Philip Clay Adams, b. 4 Oct 1852, d. 14 Jan 1939 Bardwell, Carlisle, KY, married Aug 1883, Lake Co, TN,
to Mary Julia Garrett, daughter of Edward and Elizabeth Mary Brent Adams. They had nine children. See FAG
(6) Elizabeth C. "Bettie", b. Jun 1855, d. Nov 1923, married 1st to Mark Phillips, son of Emily Jones and John William Phillips of Paris, Lamar, TX. Their children were John Wm II, Sam, Edgar, Robert Valentine, and Bessie. Bettie married 2nd to Felix McMurray and had Grover McMurray of Lamar, TX.
(7) Joseph Clifton "Cliff" Adams, b. 31 Dec 1857 Halifax, VA, d. 30 Nov 1936 Clarksville, Red River Co., TX. He was a 60 year resident of Clarksville. He owned and operated the local livery stable on N. Locust Street for 40 years and was a mailman in the county. He never married. See FAG
