Joseph Walczak was born in Wolany, Prussia, which is near present day Kruszwica, Poland to his parents , Ignatz Walczak & Jozefa Burmistrzak on March 5th, 1880. He was baptized two days later at the Collegiate Church of St. Peter & St. Paul in Kruszwica. At the age of one year, he immigrated to the United States of America with his mother and other siblings, by landing in New York on March 28th, 1881 on the steamship "S.S. Suevia". The Walczak family eventually settled in the state of Michigan, making the city of Alpena their new home.
