Joseph C. Winter, 87, To Be buried Monday
Funeral services for Joseph C. Winter, 87-year-old former carpenter for the N.C. & St. L. Railway, who died yesterday morning at a Nashville nursing home following an extended illness, will be held at 9 o’clock at the Cathedral of the Incarnation. Requiem High Mass will be sung by the Rev. Mons. A. A. Siener, and burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Mr. Winter had been confined to the nursing home since last October, when he fell and broke his hip. Born in Nashville, he received his education here and had been engaged in carpentry work since leaving school until his retirement 20 years ago. He was a member of the Cathedral of the Incarnation. Mr. Winter was married 56 years ago to the former Miss Katherine Dannaher, who survives. The body is at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John E. Hostettler of 1033 Eighteenth Avenue, South. In addition to his wife and daughter, Mrs. Hostettler, he is survived by four other daughters, Sister Mary Joseph of St. Mary’s Orphanage, Nashville; Mrs. William A. Bishop of Orlando, Fla.; Mrs. William B. Goodrich of Houston, Tex., and Mrs. Josephine Jackson of Nashville; one son, W. P. Winter of Nashville, a member of the 1945 delegation to the legislature; a sister, Mrs. Mary Burchiel of Nashville, and 14 grandchildren. Pallbearers will be: Honorary – Charles Parrish, Thos. J. Bauer, Frank Schindler, Clepper Watson, W. B. Hager, Robert T. Walker, W. E. Hoosier, Tom E. Hibbett Jr., Paul Haggard and Oscar Olafson. Active: William Burns, John Burns, Frank Dannaher, Fred Hostettler, Cedrick Parkhurst, John E. Hostettler Jr., and Monroe Hooberry. Interment at Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements by Cosmopolitan Funeral Home.
