THE BRATTLEBORO DAILY REFORMER, WEDNESDAY, MAY 26, 1915

WESTMINSTER WEST

Death of Mrs. Day, Oldest Inhabitant.

Mrs. Amy Drew Day, 88, widow of Capt. Lorenzo Day, died Wednesday evening, May 19, about 8 o' clock, after an illness of less than 24 hours with grip. She was taken suddenly ill Tuesday night and a physician was summoned at once. Mrs. Day was the oldest resident of Westminster West and had she lived until August she would have been 89 years old.

She was a daughter of Rev. Holman and Persis Drew and was born in Landgrove, Vt. Aug. 14, 1826. Sixty years of her life were spent in Enfield, N. H. About eight years ago Capt. and Mrs. Day came here to live with their daughter, Mrs. Charles Hall. Capt. Day, a Civil war veteran, died about four years ago.

Mrs. Day was lovable by nature and made many friends, and through her trials in life she always showed an unusually brave and cheerful disposition. She was looking forward to plans for the coming summer with the zest of a much younger person. She was always very active and did much needlework and assisted in the home duties up to the last day of her life. During her residence here she had the devoted care of her daughter, Mrs. Hall.

Mrs. Day leaves two daughters, Mrs. Frank Fisher of Worcester, Mass., and Mrs. Charles Hall of Westminster West, six grandsons, Burchard, Perry, Lawrence and Edward Day of Chicago, Edward Fisher of New London, Conn., and Philip Hall of this place, and one granddaughter, Olive Hall of this place, who is a student in Middlebury college.

The funeral was held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. Walter Curtis officiating. He read, by request, several verses of Whittier's Eternal Goodness, which were read at her husband's funeral. There was a profusion of beautiful flowers, among which was a large wreath of Easter lilies and carnations from the Woman's Relief corps of Enfield, N. H., of which Mrs. Day was at one time president, also flowers from friends and relatives in Enfield, Worcester and New London and the school children of district No. 1. The services were largely attended by the townspeople, and from out of town were her daughter, Mrs. Fisher, her grandson, Edward Fisher, and her granddaughter, Olive Hall. The bearers were Edward Phillips, Walter Harlow, Henry Gorham and Edward Fisher. The burial took place in the Westminster West cemetery.
