Paul Hergott the son of Joseph and Matilda (Rauner) Hergott was born April 5, 1922 on the family farm near Gilead, NE, he departed this life on July 13, 2006 at Blue Valley Lutheran Nursing Home in Hebron, NE at the age of 84 years.

Paul grew up on the farm near Gilead. He and his twin sister Pauline were next to the youngest of 13 children. Paul attended Gilead School and graduated from the 11th grade. Paul served in the United Stated Navy during WWII in Hawaii and Japan.

Paul married Patricia DeWald on May 25, 1950, and this union was blessed with the birth of sixteen children.

Paul and his wife Pat started a dairy farm near Gilead, NE, which served the family well. The family worked together which has created a strong bond of family and loyalty. Paul enjoyed doing electrical work and tinkering on mechanical things. Paul retired in 1980, but continued to work at the city landfill, and custodian of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and cemetery for 15 ½ years. Paul and Pat traveled to New York, Alaska, Florida, Texas and many other places visiting their children and attending family reunions. 13 of Paul’s children were in the U.S. Armed Forces. Paul was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hebron, NE where he attended daily mass and was a member of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, V.F.W., and the American Legion.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Lawrence, Francis, twins Edward and Edwin, and Herbert, sisters Thresa Chanceller, and Lois Daringer.

He is survived by his wife Pat, 9 daughters and 7 sons.
