"Tradition states that Jean came to America with the William Wallace family and that he "may" have married a member of William's family around the time that he had left Ireland and before marrying Katherine. Once in Somerset Co., Jean and the William Wallace family became a part of what was the First Presbyterian Community in America. It was located at Manokin and included not only the William's and Brevard families but also the Alexander families. These families intermarried extensively and they eventually migrated together to western North Carolina. Some of these families have been founding America as early as 1648. Jean's youngest child was born only about nine years before his father's death at about age 60.
The name appears variously as Beauvert, Bavaird, Bravard, and Brevard in subsequent records."
