Nathaniel was partners with his brother John Carle and brother-in-law John Miller in the Carle Miller Carle factory in Wellsburg. He lost his life in rescuing one of his employees who had been overcome by fumes while down in a well. Nathaniel went down to rescue him, but was overcome himself and died, leaving a widow and 5 children.
