Raymond Louis 'Jack' Senff was born 19 Nov 1919 in Marshall, Dunn Co., North Dakota on his fathers homestead. Parents were Charles Edward and Lydia Emma (Brase) Senff. He was nicknamed 'Jack' by his brother Leon at an early age was known as such the rest of his life. Jack grew up in Dazey, ND and lived with Leon and his family off an on since his father died when he was a teenager. When his brothers moved west to Oregon in the early 1940's, Jack did as well.
While living and working in Eastern Oregon he decided he wanted to get married and he drove back to North Dakota to get the 'girl he left behind', Helen Deloris Hanson. They were married in Pendleton, Oregon, 2 days after Jacks 22nd Birthday 21 Nov 1941. Brother Leon & Annetta Senff stood up for them at the ceremony in the court house. They had 3 children who survive, along with his beloved wife, Helen. Twin girls, Judith Rae Senff-Zimmerman-(Cliff)Anderson of Sandy, Oregon, & June Helen Senff (Jerold) Bangs of Boring, Oregon, and son Gerald Lee (Edith) Senff of Portland, OR. Also surviving are brothers, Sherman (Marie) Senff, Portland, OR, Harold (Lois) Senff, Hermimston, OR, Leon (Betty)Senff, Aloha, OR, and sisters, Hazel (Carl) Mohr of Centerville, SD, and Vera (Steve) Hughes of Vermillion, SD.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Charles & Lydia Senff, a brother Marion Senff of Georgetown, MN and Emma Senff-Thorne-Maruska of Courtenay, ND.
Jack was a talented musician, playing guitar, fiddle, mandolin. At one time having his own band at home with his wife and 3 children. He was also a master mechanic, and was Foreman of the used Car Repair Shop at Frank Chevrolet in Portland, Oregon at the time of his death.
He was an avid fisherman and had his own boat. In his youth while still in North Dakota Jack would just take off without notice and hop a freight train west to Oregon or Washington and work on ranches for a time and then when he got tired of it, he'd hop another freight train and go back to Dazey, ND.
