Prominent Business Man Passes Away
William F. Cerveny was born in Allegheny, Pennsylvania, Sept. 30, 1867. When a child he moved to Ada, Kansas with his parents where he grew to young manhood. In 1885 he came to Wilber, where he clerked in a store and later held a similar position in Auburn. In 1888 he moved back to Wilber where he went into the general merchandise business and continued in it till 1908. He had spent four years farming in Blanca, Colorado, 16 years in business in Swanton and the last ten years Wilber. A year ago he also had a branch store in DeWitt, in connection with his store in Wilber.

June 28, 1908 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Svoboda of Wilber. Two sons were born to this union, William Lawrence and Robert John. Mr. Cerveny was an active man throughout his life. He was not only a good business man but he was also interested in civic affairs. For two terms he served on a city council and belonged to various lodges and conventions. He was well known and highly respected.

On Sunday, January 29, 1939 the summons came to join the loved ones gone before. He had reached the age of 71 years, three months and 29 days.

Mr. Cerveny is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Cervey of Wilber; two sons, William Lawrence of Lincoln and Robert John in the Hawaiian Islands; two daughters by a former marriage, Mrs. Alica Collins and Mrs. Clara Hornbacher, both of Chicago, Ill.; five grandchildren; five brothers, Joseph and Charles in California, John of Prague, Oklahoma, August of Ada, Kansas and Frank of Crete; one sister, Miss Francis Cerveny of Barnston and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mr. Cerveny was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and sister in infancy, brother Fred and sister Mrs. Mary Komin.

Funeral services were held last Tuesday at 2:00 o'clock from the Havel and Houser chapel at Wilber with the Rev. K. O. Zavadil in charge. The ladies trio sang. Interment was in Bohemian National Cemetery in Wilber.
