After leaving Ireland, they stayed for short time in Manchester.

Sailed London February 23rd 1874 - arrived Auckland May 30th 1874. He was a teacher on the voyage, and became a farmer in New Zealand .

The boys returned to help their mother (Rachel) and then returned to Auckland Hospital to learn that Robert had died and been buried in a pauper's grave at Symond St cemetery. It was unmarked and there is no record as to precisely where. And now many graves have been moved to make way for the motorway.
However, the sons did find the grave (now lost again) and planted a tree on it.
