Harrison Linol Curl was the son of Asa T. CURL and Mary Olive WINANS Curl. He grew up in Colorado Springs, later moving to Santa Fe, New Mexico and then Albuquerque, New Mexico. On May 29, 1920, he married Erma Grace PRUITT in Colorado Springs, Colorado. They had three children: Harry, Betty Jean and Robert.

Harry, as he was known, loved to play banjo and mandelin with family and friends. He was a buglar in the Army during World War I. He was stationed at Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas, serving with the 53rd Machine Gun Battalion, Company B.

He worked in the printing business for many years, finally working for the University of New Mexico Press as a pressman.
