Never having grandchildren of her own, she was a grandmother to many children she babysat over the years, most of whom lovingly called her "Brady". She never missed an opportunity to help others, and volunteered countless hours to many different organizations and causes. In 1975, while living in Crete, she was named Wife of the Year. At the time of her death, Sam and Syliva had been married 52 years.
Sylvia was preceded in death by all four of her siblings: Hazel Smith Poston, William (Bill) Smith, George Smith and David Smith. Beside her husband Samuel, she is survived by her daughter, Debbie Russell and husband Kurt, of Goldsboro, N.C, her son, Scott Brady, of Raleigh, N.C., a special sister-in-law, Sandy Smith of Witchita, Kansas, and four very special "grandchildren": April, Brittany, Cianna and Destiny Wilson, and great-grandson Nate, all of Goldsboro, N.C. Sylvia is also survived by three special cousins she called her sisters: Vicki Sykes, Dreama Holder and Cathy Bland.
Sylvia enjoyed cooking, sewing, and spending time with friends and family. She is dearly loved and missed by all who knew her.
