Born in Cumberland County, North Carolina, a daughter of Leslie Forrest Knight and Addie Barden Knight.

She was the twin sister of Leon Atwood Knight.

At the 1920 Federal Census, After the death of their mother, she and her brother, Hugh, were listed in the Sumter, South Carolina household of their aunt and uncle, Kathleen Leonora Barden Walsh (Memorial #77573922) and Thomas Vardelle Walsh (Memorial #7754015).

Leonora earned her teaching degree at Winthrop College and taught for a number of years at Edmunds High School in Sumter before she and her husband moved to Camden. Leonora taught for 30 years in Camden before retiring in 1973. In 1994, she returned to Sumter and lived at Covenant Place.

She and her husband were active, faithful member of First Baptist Church of Sumter, where they were married.
