Private Services for Officer of Local Dry Goods Firm

Private funeral services will be held this afternoon for Horace C. Hearne, 51, secretary-treasurer of the Hearne Dry Goods Company, who was found dead in the bathroom of his home, 1029 Delaware Street, at 8:15 a.m. yesterday.

Dr. Charles S. Boone, deputy parish coroner, said that the death was caused by a self-inflicted bullet. Mr. Hearne had been in ill health and had been visited by his physician the previous day.

A native of Shreveport, Mr. Hearne had been associated with his father, George M. Hearne, Sr., and his brother, George M. Hearne, Jr., in the operation of the dry goods store here.

He was graduated from local public schools and later attended Washington and Lee University. Following his graduation he returned to Shreveport to become associated with his father.

During World War I, he enlisted in the Marine Corps and saw overseas service. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and was active in church and civic affairs.

Burial will be in Forest Park Cemetery under the direction of Osborn Funeral Home. The funeral services will be at the family residence.

Mr. Hearne is survived by his widow, Mrs. Katherine Marston Hearne; two sons, Horace C. Hearne, Jr., a student at Louisiana State University, and Henry Hearne, Shreveport; his father, George M. Hearne, Sr.; a brother, George M. Hearne, Jr., and a sister, Mrs. R. McL. Jeter, all of Shreveport.

Active pallbearers will be Ward Marston, William W. Marston, J. G. Marston, Jr., John Hearne, Horace Jeter, and George M. Hearne, III.
