Stella Magdalena Wenger, 84 of Wayland died early Friday morning, February 18, 2005 at the Henry County Health Center in Mt. Pleasant.

A Celebration of Stella's life will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, February 21, 2005 at the Bethel Mennonite Church with Pastor Phil Slabaugh officiating. Burial will be held prior to the service at 10:15 A.M. Monday at the Bethel Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2:00 P.M. Sunday at the Bethel Mennonite Church with family present from 5-8:00 P.M. Memorials in the name of Stella Wenger may be designated to the Bethel Mennonite Church.

Stella was born February 5, 1921 in Wayland, IA the daughter of Ben R. and Mary (Graber) Roth. She was united in marriage to Harold Wenger August 17, 1941 at her parent's home.

Stella was a faithful member of Bethel Mennonite Church and cooked at the Coffee Cup in Olds along with homemaking at home and for others. She enjoyed baking, cooking and was always very hospitable, welcoming many guests into her home. The Wenger family also hosted children from the "Fresh Air" program to their farm during the summers.


Survivors include her husband Harold of Wayland, children Alice Hsu and husband Norman of Los Angeles, CA, Richard Wenger and wife Ruth of Brownsville, OR, Joanne den Bleyker and husband Bob of Los Angeles, CA, Lois Klopfenstein and husband Gerry of Wayland, Rod Wenger and wife Janice of Wayland, Marilyn Hershberger and husband Larry of Wayland, Ruth Brenneman and husband Lynn of Bentonville, AR and Gary Wenger and wife Myrna of Wayland; brothers, Vernon B. Roth and wife Jean of Mt. Pleasant and Edwin Roth and wife Marianna of Carlsbad, NM; sister Lucille Swartzendruber of Hesston, KS; seventeen grandchildren and twenty-six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Elmer, Dan, Lester and Glen, and sister Lavina Leichty, and an infant daughter, Mary Kay.
