Father Nacke dies in Hebron; funeral service held Tuesday

The Mass of Christian Burial was conducted Dec. 22 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Hebron, for Rev. Clement J. Nacke, 85, former pastor of St. Augustine's Catholic Church, Schuyler.

Archbishop Daniel E. Sheehan and nephew, Xavier Clement, con-celebrated the Mass. Hack Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements and burial was in the parish cemetery.

Pallbearers were David Reinecke, Mike Bideaux, John Healy, Robert Guynan and nephews, William and John Kroll, Ralph McLaughlin and Stan Schiermeyer.

Father died Saturday at the home he shared with his niece, Mary Louise Rozmajzl.

The son of Conrad C. and Elizabeth Pogge Nacke, he was born Oct. 12, 1896, at West Point, where he received his early education. After graduation from Creighton Prep, he attended Creighton University and St. Benedict's College, Atchison, Kans.

His philosophy training was taken at St. Paul's Seminary, St. Louis. He was ordained July 1, 1922 at Kenrich Seminary, St. Louis, for the diocese of Omaha.

Father was appointed pastor of St. Rose Parish, Hooper, 9n 1923 and remained there and at St. Lawrence, Scribner, until June of 1945, when he was named pastor of St. Augustine's. In addition to his pastoral duties, he served as dean of the Fremont Deanery for many years.

When Father came to Schuyler his sister, Betty, served as his housekeeper until her death in 1976. He retired Feb. 2, 1970, but continued to live in Schuyler until July, 1979, when he moved to Hebron.

Survivors include one sister, (Alma) Mrs. Carl Helfrich, Portland, Ore.; nieces and nephews, Mrs. Mary Louse Rozmajzl, Miss Annabelle Nacke, Mrs. Timothy Mahoney, Mrs. Harvey Hess, Sister Margaret Nacke CSJ, Father Xavier Nacke, OSD, Robert Vonderhaar, Karl Vonderhaar, (Lucille) Mrs. Norman Kroll, (Loretta) Mrs. Marshall Golden, Clement G. Helfrich, Jeannette Helfrich, (Carol) Mrs. Richard Lolli, William Nacke Jr., Catherine Andreckat, (Judy) Mrs. Ralph McLaughlin and Jerry Nacke.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
