SERVICES HELD MONDAY FOR BENA HERRIG, 85

Funeral services were held on Monday, Aug. 15, for Bena Herrig, 85, of Albert City.

The Rev. Richard Dowling officiated at the 10:30 a.m. service at Our Savior's Lutheran Church. Music was provided by Mrs. Gene McLaughlin, organist, and Martha Lane, soloist. Flowers were in the care of Mrs. John Rasmussen and Mrs. Bill Shold.

Pallbearers were Leonard Peters, Darwin Becker, Earl Herrig, Richard Herrig, Donald Kies and Jerry Irwin. Interment was made in the Fairfield Cemetery, Albert City.

Bena Kies Herrig, the second child of Fredrick and Hiska Kies, was born April 2, 1898, in Sac County. She was baptized and confirmed in the Peace Lutheran Church in Wall Lake. On Jan. 8, 1918, in Sac City, she was united in marriage to Carl Herrig. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Aberdeen, S.D., to begin farming. After Carl's discharge from the Army in June of 1918, they continued farming in Sac and Buena Vista counties.

In 1949 they purchased a farm near Comfrey, Minn., where they lived until April of 1964, when they moved to Albert City. Carl died in 1965 and Bena continued to live there until her health failed. She then resided in the Pleasant View Home until her death on Aug. 11, 1983.

She leaves to mourn five daughters and four sons: Lucille Lorenzen of Linn Grove; Irene Moore of Albert City; Mrs. Lester (Marvel) Anderson of Marathon; Mrs. John (Hazel) Marietta of Cassa Grande, Ariz.; Mrs. Lester (Deloris) Sennert of Dickens; Don of Albert City; Fred of Boone; Harold of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and Russell of Comfrey, Minn. Also surviving are 34 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Hannah Dumler of Red Oak, and Mrs. John (Esther) Huisenga of Breda; and a brother, Ezra Kies of Glidden; nieces and nephews and a host of relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two granddaughters, Linda and Susan Herrig; one great-grandchild, Lee Roger Pidde; and two sisters, Margaret Voss and Caroline Gerdes.

Bena was a loving, devoted Christian wife, mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
