Married 26 Feb. 1818 Allegheny Co., PA

Had 13 Ch: William Barr, Samuel (died infancy), Samuel B., George Scott, Eliza Jane, John, Robert, Rebecca R., James, Susan D., Alexander, T. Mason, Frances.

Washington Reporter - May 18, 1859
DIED - At his residence in this place, on the 6th inst., of peritoneal inflammation, Mr. JOHN HART, in the 63rd year of his age.
The deceased was born near Greensburgh, Westmoreland county, Pa. of parents who were both members of the church of the Rev. Francis Laird, one of the first settled pastors of the Presbyterian church west of the Alleghenies. His mother especially was remarkable for piety, as well as general excellence of character, and his religious training, therefore, received faithful attention. His first profession of religion was made, in connection with the Reformed Presbyterian church of Pittsburgh, under the pastoral charge of the Rev. John Black, D.D., in the year 1818. Upon his removal to Washington, in the spring of 1833, he transferred his connection to the Presbyterian church, of which the Rev. D. Elliott, D.D. was pastor, and in its communion he remained until death.
The deceased was a man of peculiarly unobtrusive spirit, unselfish aims, and quiet life. By industry and economy, he succeeded in rearing, in comfort and respectability, a large family of children, ten of whom survive. Of these, nine in connection with their excellent mother, had the melancholy satisfaction of ministering to him during the last painful hours of his life, and of receiving from his own lips the priceless legacy of his dying blessing. He has left them the "inheritance of a good name, together with the sweet confidence that he has gone, through the Redeemer's merits, to the house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens,".
