Earl A. “Pete” Shipley, 66, of What Cheer died August 28, 1982 at the Mahaska County Hospital.

He was born October 23, 1915, in Keokuk County to Howard A. and Lela Mae Roberts Shipley.

He married Thelma F. Fear August 13, 1937, at Oskaloosa.

He was a retired farmer and carpenter. He had lived in What Cheer since 1967. Prior to that, he lived in Sigourney and 10 years in Hayesville.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Garry D.; nine grandchildren; four great grandchildren; brothers, Jack and M. L. Shipley; and sisters, Mrs. Carl Dilley, and Mrs. Dale Ingle.

Preceding him in death were his parents, a son, Larry, a brother and a granddaughter.

Services were held August 31 at Harden Funeral Chapel in What Cheer with Rev. Duane Ferguson officiating. Burial was in Garrett cemetery near Delta.
